Abstract
The concept of Zapping was only made possible by the massification of tv channels. The idea that something "better" is being missed somewhere makes us press the button over and over, i find this an interesting metaphor with contemporary living. It's in the instants between pressing the button that our aspirations grow.
The radio was the first user consumer product that made possible to have a music or information source at home, at the time this was seen as a magical quallity and listening to radio was an event for the family to share.
Nowadays with all the user controllable portable music players radio changed as a medium, it's now listened to as a companion or a background while driving, working or just relaxing, sometimes making time go faster, sometimes easening the load of having to chose what to listen to.
The nostalgic presence of a forgotten radio left on that, from time to time, brings us back memories from a distant, long gone, era.

Operation method
A continous servo motor is attached to the radio's tunning knob, the servo is controlled by an Arduino board and in direct relation with the sound amplitude coming from a microphone.
The servo motor is continuously turning at a very low speed, whenever a radio station is found the microphone detects this change and makes the servo turn even slower.
Two switches at both ends of the tunning range detect whenever the servo reached an end and makes it rotate in the opposite direction, leaving it in eternal motion.

a performance for three pieces:
driven by mainstream - 87,5 - 108 MHz
driven by state-infotainment - 52.5-165 kHz
driven by propaganda - 3.9-12 MHz

two musicians, detached from each other, but connected by the same conducting-audio-stream, which is generated real time by "Solitude or the eternal search of something to look for " - a radio installation by andré goncalves

each of the musicians only hears the conducting audio-stream and himself playing,
the audience only hears the two musicians.
